Elug.Art.Corner, located in Tongmen Village, Xiulin Township, Hualien County, was founded in 2015 by Dungdung Houwun. In the Truku language, there is a word “Elug,” which means “road.” Its pronunciation is similar to the Chinese “兒路” (Érlù), symbolizing the hope to walk the path of ancestors with a fearless and pure heart like a child.
At Elug Art Corner, youth from different tribes and backgrounds come together, united by their passion for indigenous culture and their concern for the contemporary situation of tribal culture. In response to the gradual fading of the history of tribal migration and the meanings of traditional rituals among modern indigenous people, Elug, led by Dungdung Houwun, employs methods such as field research, theater performances, film production, and cultural experience activities. They start with the inheritance of traditional music and dance and gradually bring back the spirit of rituals, step by step, to consolidate indigenous culture. At the same time, Elug also focuses on the sustainable culture and industry of Tongmen Village, actively promoting tribal experience tours, hoping to bring the public into the village to experience the indigenous pace and history.
